Again, if we treat The Yoga Sutras as a stages model, Stage 4 is Pranayama. It focuses on the breath and breathing. In this stage, the breathing exercises (i) suspend the flow of breath and (ii) Increase life energy. According to the Sutras, there’re four kinds of Pranayama practices: (i) Regulation of the out-breath; (ii) Regulation of the in-breath, (ii) Regulation of the mid-flow, and (iv) Beyond the domain of inner and outer. What is the outcome of engaging in these Pranayama practices: “The light of the intellect is unveiled.”
